Weekend Recap-- Southern California Style

Tuesday, October 4, 2011
Jetsetting is quite exciting and adrenalin pumping, but exhausting on the flip side.  It is pretty amazing that Andy & I worked full days on Friday, hopped a plane to LA and then were back in time for work on Monday.

We had a wonderful weekend in LA.  I'd never been to Southern California and wow, I can see why people go and never come back!

We stayed at the Riviera Country Club which was the location of the wedding ceremony and reception.  It was Andy's Rodeo Drive.  Apparently, there's a lot of golf history that involves this Country Club and Andy soaked it all in.

Mom and Dad had been in town for a few days and had scoped out the perfect driving tour to maximize our limited time in town.  On Saturday morning, we drove up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu and then back down through Santa Monica where we strolled the boardwalk.  It was pretty touristy, but I guess that was appropriate as we were tourists.

I never knew, not that I had ever thought about it, that Venice Beach is appropriately named because when it was developed in the early 1900's, the developer built on marshlands intending to create a little town with canals like Venice, Italy. Tucked away behind the beach and behind the commercial development are these precious little canals lined with homes.  Some of the homes have mini-piers with kayaks, canoes or paddle boats.  Apparently they do it up for Christmas over here.

I just had to see it.  Andy, of course, opted not to go.

The wedding was beautiful.  I kept saying how perfect the weather was for the wedding, but apparently it's always perfect out there!

  1. I guess I am an official Tallulah and Vidalia groupie as this is my second comment :) EJ and the girls and I stayed at the Hotel Shangri La in Santa Monica this summer and had a blast--so neat to see your photos there! I also drove by Chip and Debbie's today to attend a meeting in between Starkville and Columbus--I wish I had had time to stop and say hi.
